My experience building a public town square

Why:

A civilisation with nuclear weapons cannot afford to be blinded by rage.

The huge gap between the will of the majority and the decisions made was exposed.

Algorithms optimized to generate clicks for ads, because that’s how they’re funded.

–> Lack of understanding, cancel culture, malice, hatred, negligence, the conformity of armchair activists, pointlessly arguing on social media

What future do we want? What conversations should we therefore have? Who do we allow to decide?

Fix pollution.

How:

Focus to the positive things that can be done.

Evoke the desire to do good actions that cumulatively lead to a drastically better outcome.

Citizens get a certain amount of points that they get to allocate, unlike the static vote.

The International Logic Party puts forward a list of ideas with the most votes in the system.

This is akin to a green party, that has a consistent set of values internationally.

Ranking the Algorithms and Policies.

That way society holds politicians responsible. Power to the people. Wealth is being transferred consciously.

Responsibility is given and taken away.

Leaders propose ideas. Everybody has a chance to create and idea, promote it, and make it happen.

Users will be able to pay for access to choose/create their own filters and ranking formulae within the communities with the existing database.

Citizens could see what’s really working and is worth their time.

This approach is so powerful, it can be generalized beyond political projects, like problems, gathering funds for the winners of the competitions implementing the best solutions, thus creating the market with problems and solutions, which represent demand and supply respectively.

Status quo:

2020 gave everybody a reason to stop and think about the way things are progressing in our societies.

Patreon is a great invention. But money alone cannot send the right signal to the rest.
If YouTube sorted videos based on the gratitude they got, it would help a lot more people.
How is relevance determined? By keywords. Collaborative filtering.

Results:

Users really put a lot of thought into their profiles. My profile on Egora is not that interesting. I’ve used Github for that.

Ideas on Egora are basically a wishlist, like Petitions. But unlike the platforms like change.org, the implementation of the best ideas is planned to be done by the political party, which will be registered in different countries.

Citizens could add things to their wishlist, that are not items in the store, but needs, problems they have, therefore signalling the demand for them.

This will be as simple as following hashtags relating to the problems you need solving, allocating the finite amount of points, or pledge money, so that those funds could be used like a hackathon prizes for the most promising teams.

Within our community from Egora, We’ve also discovered plenty of organisations with an ambition to create a tool for direct democracy.

Thank you for attention

Existing institutions can only achieve so much.

It all started with in-person meetings, and due to quarantine, moved to Zoom meetings. The whole network of active people are now doing their own podcasts, etc. There were also meetings on Sundays.

As a Ukrainian-American tech company, Egora is highly motivated.
